Search for stolen trailer loaded with valuable steel

Article Updated: 2pm to include PSNI appeal.

An urgent information appeal is underway after a trailer containing a valuable load of steel was reported stolen from Foyle Golf Centre at the border in Derry last night.

The trailer is owned by Inishowen-based contracting firm Mulhall Contracts.

The incident occurred on Tuesday 9th April just after 10pm, with CCTV footage capturing people breaking into the driving range car park and stealing the trailer. The trailer, a Tuffmac 16ft tri-axle with registration number 191 DL 2699, was loaded with £16,000 worth of steel critical for the golf centre’s ongoing extension project.

CCTV footage shows the suspects using a white Transit van to tow the stolen trailer away from the scene. The van was reportedly last seen heading down Alder Road at approximately 10:23pm.

Foyle Golf Centre is urging anyone with information regarding the trailer or its whereabouts to come forward to them or to the PSNI. A reward is being offered for the safe return of the trailer and the steel load, as the theft poses a significant setback for the construction project.

Constable Patterson said: “We believe a white Transit van was used to tow the trailer and its contents from the premises.

“We believe the van made its way to the premises to carry out the theft via Racecourse Road and may have pulled in briefly at Woodlands Avenue, the new development on Alder Road beforehand.

“We have released images of the trailer that was stolen in the hope someone saw it being towed away by a white Transit van along Alder Road from around 10:15-10:20pm last night.

“We’re keen to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of the trailer and material, or has been offered a similar trailer or material for sale in suspicious circumstances.

“This theft is devastating for the owner. Not only is there the financial loss from the value of the trailer and the materials that have been stolen, but the owner is now without a trailer needed for work.

“If you have information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, report it as it could help identify who is responsible and involved in this crime and get the trailer and material back to their owner.”

Call 101 with information, quoting reference 207 of 10/04/24 or report online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport

Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
