Tributes are being paid to much-respected Letterkenny community activist James Allen McClean, who passed away peacefully yesterday.

As a member of many community groups, he did trojan work in championing disability access across Donegal and promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in everyday life.

He was a Secretariat Member of the Donegal Public Participation Network (PPN).

A tribute from the group highlights James’ exceptional contributions. They said: “James joined the Secretariat in 2019 and gave freely of his time to advise and promote the PPN at our meetings and events. He was an amazing advocate for People with Disabilities, keeping them to the fore of all our activities throughout the past few years.

“He was a PPN Representative on various Committees and was central in our numerous Walkability Audits in various towns throughout Donegal and recently with the Age Friendly Walkability Audit at Donegal Airport.

“His wisdom and wit will be sorely missed by us all.”

Condolences are being paid to his loving wife Ann, sons Allen and wife Lisa (Gartan), Stewart and wife Claire (Mountain Top, Letterkenny) and daughter Louise and husband David Magee (Raphoe), grandchildren D.J, Caolán, Caoimhe, Eve and Noa, brothers Frank and John, sisters Rosemary and Sandra, uncles, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours.

James’ remains are reposing at his late residence, Hawthorn Lodge, Magherabouy, Letterkenny F92 P86E today Thursday from 11am – 9pm. Funeral from there on Friday, 12th April, at 1.15pm going to Ray Presbyterian Church, Manorcunningham for Service of Thanksgiving at 2pm. Interment afterwards in the adjoining Churchyard.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, to Medical 3 Ward, Letterkenny University Hospital c/o any family member.
