Donegal County Council said it has discovered traces of heating oil or diesel present in a Raphoe stream this week.

The pollutant was found in the Swilly Burn, below the town.

“Donegal County Council are asking the people in the Raphoe area to please check the condition of your domestic or business oil tank, boiler and all connections and pipework linking the two for any sign of a leak,” a council spokesperson said.

“If any leaks are found, please repair them as a matter of urgency.”
