Loreto Letterkenny hosted its first Vex Robotics Primary School Competition in collaboration with ATU.

This event was organised and run by a group of TY students who are a part of the Loreto Secondary School ICT Committee.

They were excited to welcome six teams from four local primary schools: Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál, Woodland National School, Scoil Naomh Fiachra Illistrin and Glenswilly National School.

Vex Robotics is an international program which aims to get young people involved in Science and Technology from an early age. Participants design, build and code a Robot to solve particular problems in a collaborative way. It promotes problem solving and communication skills.

Our goal with these events is to promote STEM in education as well as empowering women in STEM. It is hoped that through Vex Robotics events like these, young girls can gain a better understanding and interest in STEM.

“It’s a great opportunity for girls to experience STEM in a fun and engaging way,” said Jane Toner, Teacher from Illistrin NS.

Congratulations to the two winning teams from Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál.
