Iconic Donegal Town pub to change hands

A chapter is closing at the famous Reel Inn pub of Donegal Town, as owners John and Denise Mc Menamin announce they are retiring.

The award-winning pub, synonymous with great music and great nights, will change ownership on Monday.

In a message to punters, Denise wrote: “It’s the end of an era for John and I. The Reel Inn will be changing hands next Monday, the 22nd of April. We have a fantastic lineup of music for our last weekend come along and help us celebrate and meet the new owners, Jimmy and Michael. We would like to thank all our staff and the people who have worked with us , the musicians. our customers, our families and our friends.

“To everyone who has travelled from near and far. we thank you for the love and the support over the last 21 years.

“We are leaving her in excellent hands Jimmy and Michael are two great young men who will keep the music going and we wish them all the best. We are living local so will still be in to enjoy the music and the craìc. But for now it’s over and out from John and Denise.”

The announcement has promoted a series of warm wishes from the community. Tourists from all over the world have also shared memories of their time in the bar, where they entered as strangers and left as friends.
