Accessible gems for ‘holiday of a lifetime’ in Donegal unveiled in new web hub

Families visiting Donegal have a new website to consult to find accessible and inclusive experiences for people with disabilities.

‘Access Donegal’ is part of the newly launched website by the Special Needs Parents Network in Donegal.

The webpage details fully accessible holiday homes, beach wheelchairs, and pioneering experiences for people with additional needs.

Caring Capall in Falcarragh, for example, provides equine therapy for children and adults with physical, emotional and cognitive difficulties. In south Donegal, the award-winning Liquid Therapy provides inclusive and adaptive surf therapy programmes.

“Families of those who have disabilities have to do extra research on accessibility and inclusivity even just for a day trip, so we really wanted to create a resource where it would make that process much easier and more straightforward,” said Josephine Corkery, a member of the Special Needs Parent Network in Donegal.

“Also there are many families who find it very difficult to travel or holiday abroad so we wanted to highlight Donegal as an accessible location where they can have the holiday of a lifetime.”

The new snpndonegal.com website also provides information and resources to individuals with a disability in Donegal and their family members. Helpful insights on benefits and entitlements, education and schools are shared on the site, which was created by parents/guardians for parents/guardians. The network began through social media last year in response to a lack of access to services from understaffed Children’s Disability Network Teams.

Josephine adds further recommendations will be added to ‘Access Donegal‘ as the page grows: “There are organisations out there doing absolutely fantastic work on accessibility & inclusivity and we want to highlight these – we are more than happy to feature any organisation that offers accessible accommodation, places to visit and or experiences for children and adults with a disability on our website – contact snpndonegal@gmail.com and we will be in touch.”
