A car was seized and a number of fines were issued this morning at multi-agency checkpoints in Inishowen.

Gardaí from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were assisted by Revenue and Social Welfare Enforcement Officers in Muff and St. Johnston.

A number of fines were issued for non display of ‘N’ plates and for seatbelt offences.

A learner driver, who was unaccompanied on their journey, had their car seized under the Clancy Amendment.

“It is against the law for you to drive unaccompanied on a learner permit,” a garda spokesperson explained.

“Under the Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) system in Ireland, a learner permit holder must be accompanied at all times by someone who has held a full, valid driving licence in the same category for a minimum of two years.”
