This week’s Dunkineely/Bruckless/Killaghtee community notes are out

Here are all of the community notes for Dunkineely, Bruckless and Killaghtee for this week.

Beach Clean
Our first Beach Clean of the year took place on Saturday 27th April at Brenter Shore. It was wonderful to have such a good turnout. And young ones starting early, very enthusiastic and did an amazing job. Weather was great! If you would like to be part of the local Beach Clean group, text us on 085 255 3225. We cover Dunkineely, Bruckless and St. John’s Point. Our next clean will be on 11th May at Bunlacky Shore, down past Dunkineely Community Centre.

Mary’s Meals
Seeking old cones and notes, punts, euros, sterling and any other foreign currency. Drop them of at Dunkineely NS on Saturday 4th May between 2 and 4pm. Mary’s Meals can provide a meal to children, each day for a year, for just €22. Now feeding 2,429,182 children around the world.

John Murrin
To commemorate 100 years since the untimely death of Garda John Alphonsus Murrin, the local community will hold a service in the Church of Saints Joseph and Conal, Bruckless on Sunday 5th May at 2pm. “John Murrin, born on 23rd March, 1898, came from Brucklass, Co. Donegal. He joined An Garda Síochána on 4th April, 1923, having previously worked as a merchant. Garda Murrin, previous to joining An Garda Síochána, served in the Irish Volunteers (1918-1922) and the National Army (1922-1923). Circumstances: On 6th May, 1924, Garda John Murrin, with his colleague Sergeant Thomas Griffin, were investigating a shooting incident which had occurred the previous day. Having identified the suspects for the crime, both Sergeant Griffin and Garda Murrin proceeded to a house at nearby Killonerry, Co. Kilkenny. On arrival and without warning, both Gardai were shot and seriously injured. Garda Murrin died from his injuries on 19th October, 1924.”  – Garda Roll of Honour.

Treasure Trail
Join in the 5k Family Treasure Trail on Saturday 25th May at 10am. Beginning at the Methodist Church in Dunkineely, you will solve clues working in teams of two or more. Solve the final clue and be rewarded with treasure. Refreshments afterwards at the church carpark. Donations gratefully received.

Active Retirement
The Killaghtee Active Retirement Association at the Naomh Ultan GAA Centre, Dunkineely (F94 A977).
We welcome visitors wanting to know about the group and its activities, as well as those individuals wishing to become members. May meetings will be held on May 1st, 15th, and 29th. Church Services
Methodist Church: Normal Sunday Services will be held at 10:30am in Dunkineely and 12 noon in Ardara. Please note the change of times.

Catholic Church: Church of St Joseph and St Conal Newsletter available online at: tiny.cc/PBNL
Church of Ireland: The Sunday service will be at 10:45am in Killaghtee.

Dunkineely Celtic FC
Lottery: Dunkineely Celtic Lotto results for 14th April were 1, 4, 11, 26.  There was no Jackpot winner. Consolation prizes of €20 each went to Donna Curran, Dessie Gallagher and Red Pat. Jackpot rolled over to €1,780.

U12 LGFA: Well done to the U12 LGFA team who played their first game of the year, travelling up to Naomh Bríd, Ballintra. There was some great football on display with a great team performance. The game was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Cúl Camp: Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp 2024 will run from Monday 15th July to Friday 19th July.

Royal Flush Lotto: Royal Flush Lotto results for 28/04/24 were 8, 11, 14, 24. There was no winner of this week’s jackpot. Consolation prizes went to Conor Shovlin, Martin McNern and Shane McGlynn. Tom Murphy
The death has occurred of Tom Murphy, Main Street, Dunkineely. Peacefully at Letterkenny University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his loving wife Brid, his parents, his uncle Johnny and brothers and sister.  Sadly missed by his daughter Marie and sons Seamus and Gregory, daughter in law, Donna and son in law, Tony, his adoring grandchildren Bridin, Anna, Aisling, Thomas and Lucy, his brothers Greg and Jim, his sisters Anne and Nora, extended family, neighbours and friends. Funeral Mass was on Saturday at the Church of St Joseph and St Conal, Bruckless, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
