Investigations are underway after two separate burglaries at churches in Donegal.

The shocking incidents occurred in Fahan and Dungloe last week.

The first theft occurred at the Chapel of Ease in Fahan on Monday the 29th of April when two candle donation boxes were damaged and cash was stolen sometime between 9.15am and 8pm. This is the second time in two years that the church has been broken into.

The following day, an attempt was made to force open a security box in the Sacristy at St. Crona’s Church in Dungloe. The opening to the security box is located on the interior wall of the Church. Damage was caused to the box but nothing was stolen.

Gardaí are treating the incident at St. Crona’s as criminal damage. An appeal has been made for witnesses to come forward if they noticed anything untoward on Tuesday the 30th of April between 8am and 8pm.

If anybody observed any suspicious people or activity in the Chapel Road area last Tuesday or if they have any relevant information, they are asked to contact Gardaí in Milford on 074-9153060.

Furthermore, gardaí in Buncrana are appeal to anybody who may have observed any suspicious activity in the area of the Chapel of Ease in Fahan on 29th of April to make contact with Gardaí in Buncrana on 074-9320540.
