The Tara Hotel in Killybegs has been sold, it has been confirmed.

In a post last night on their Facebook page, Robert Lynch was unveiled as the new owner.

He takes over from John Paul and Breege McGuinness who established the business 20 years ago.

Thanking the previous owners, Mr Lynch confirmed the hotel will continue to provide tourist accommodation in Ireland’s premier fishing port.

“We’re excited to announce a new chapter for The Tara Hotel,” he said.

“The hotel is now under new ownership, and we’re looking forward to building upon its legacy while introducing some exciting changes in the coming months. We want to express our sincere gratitude to the previous owners Johnny Paul and Breege for 20 years of dedication and commitment to The Tara Hotel. We wish them both all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”

Mr Lynch also confirmed that renovations and ‘5 star enhancements’ are planned for the building.

“In the meantime, rest assured that The Tara Hotel remains open for business and will continue to function as a hotel which the new owner Robert Lynch believes that accommodation is essential to Killybegs and the area. We’re committed to providing the same level of exceptional service you’ve come to expect.”

Wishing the new owner all the best, the McGuinness family felt the time had come to ‘pass on the baton.’

“With a mixture of pride and nostalgia, we’ve decided that the time has come for us to pass the baton to a new owner and embark on a new chapter,” they said.

“The Tara Hotel holds a special place in our hearts, not just as a business venture, but as a tribute to our beloved daughter Tara, whose memory it honours. It is with a deep sense of gratitude that we extend our thanks to everyone who has supported us over the last 20 years in the hotel and indeed over the last four decades of our journey in the hospitality sector in Killybegs.”

They also extended their ‘deepest gratitude’ to their staff, customers and suppliers.

“Together, you have all played an indispensable role in shaping our business and we are profoundly grateful for your contributions,” they added.

“We extend our best wishes to Mr Robert Lynch as he takes the helm of the Tara Hotel.  May its legacy continue to flourish under new stewardship, carrying forward the spirit of hospitality and community that has defined it for the past two decades.  We wish Robert and his team all the very best in the coming years and look forward to seeing the Tara Hotel go from strength to strength.”
