Tales of Flossie McFluff recounted at magical Rathmullan event

Rathmullan was definitely the place to be last Sunday afternoon for the Lá Bealtaine celebrations and enjoyment of all things ‘fairy’ related.

The youngsters were all abuzz with excitement at the beautifully decorated Boathouse Sheds where stories of ancient customs and traditions were recounted. This traditionally took place on May Day’s Eve, to ward off evil spirits and sometimes of the devilment that fairies  got blamed for.

Anne Friel recounted the magical story of Flossie McFluff, the Lonely Banshee and Carol Wilson entertained the crowd while the younger ones made their own personal fairy wands and coloured beautiful pictures. The ‘Worry’ and personal ‘Fairy Wish Box’ were very popular, as well as enjoying lots of treats with a sip of Fairy Juice, and a sumptuous Fairy Cake.

Many had time to get a ‘Wishing Gate’ snapshot before rushing off with a unique ‘Fairy Wood Map’ in search of Flossie McFluffs House, Pine Dust Tree, or the Mullan Fairy Family Home, or Cuppy’s Shed and much more enroute to the Fairy Garden, stopping here and there peeping into nooks and crannies in search of elusive fairies. What a magical afternoon for adults and children alike.

Huge thanks to all involved with this ‘Afternoon of Fun’, hosted by the Tidy Towns Group. A special mention to Kayleigh and Daniel Fulton, Hazel Russell, and all the other volunteers who made this annual event so special.
