National: Man (20s) dies in Monaghan crash – Main Dublin road closed

A young man has died following an early morning crash in County Monaghan.

The two-vehicle collision occurred on the main N2 Dublin road at Moneygorbet, between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross. As a result the road is closed in the area of McCaughey’s Filling Station and will likely remain so for the rest of the day. Diversions are in place.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.15am involving a car and a van.

The male driver of the car, aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has since been removed to the mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a post mortem will take place. The male passenger, aged in his 20s was injured and has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

The male driver of the van, aged in his 50s, was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
