Students from across Donegal were invited to ‘fly’ to Europe recently on a journey of discovery about the European Union.
Donegal Youth Service in partnership with Leargas, organised the on 22nd April event as a part of this year’s European Youth Week.
It was all about the upcoming European elections, and the set up was an airport.

The event was buzzing with excitement as the TY students from international backgrounds gathered to learn about the importance of voting. The Letterkenny Youth Information Centre team did a fantastic job of creating an atmosphere that was both informative and fun, making sure that everyone had a great time.
Young people received their boarding passes and passports, and once they crossed the security check line, they had to go through different stages of their journey: check-in, where they had a chance to register to vote or check their eligibility to vote, then they moved to lounge area where they could learn about the Eurozone, the European Union pioneers and take part in a flash quizzes. Later they started moving toward the gates: EU elections, European opportunities for young people, and the final one- a big quiz about the European Union. The whole event finished with the lunch available from the food hall at the airport.

“We hope all participants had a lovely time at the event and that they enjoyed a flight with the DYS airline. Our ultimate goal was to increase the level of awareness among young people in the area of active citizenship and importance of voting,” said Katarzyna Kurzeja, Youth Information Officer.
