Musicians and volunteers sought for Twin Towns Darkness into Light

The organisers of tomorrow’s Ballybofey-Stranorlar Darkness into Light are looking for musicians to play along the route.

Last year, participants were pleasantly surprised to hear some of the many local artists perform.

“We would particularly like to hear from any musicians who could come out and play at key points on the route,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.

The third annual Twin Towns event will start at 4.15am tomorrow from the Finn Valley Leisure Centre and finish at the same location.

Registering:  Register in advance if you can at www.darknessintolight.ie. A small number of registrations can be taken on the morning, but volunteers will be busy with other tasks.

Participants can arrive from 3.45am onward and toilets will be available, but wrap up warm as the meeting point is outside.

The route will go through Ard McCool, up Drumboe Avenue and through the woods. It will continue down Beechwood Avenue, the Back Lane, around the riverside walk at MacCumhaills and back up Railway Road to The Finn Valley Centre.  Be sure to bring a torch or a personal light for the section in the woods.

There will be toilets available at both the Finn Valley Centre and at MacCumhaills clubhouse.

Parking: Please note: there will be NO PARKING on the Railway Road or in Ard McCool, and along the Main Street in Stranorlar. This is to respect the local residents and to ensure the safety of all participants.  Parking is available at: Ballybofey Main Car Parks, Raitts Car Park, beside Homesavers in Stranorlar and many other points around the towns.

“We encourage you to arrive in plenty of time to park and reach the start point on time.”

Darkness Into Light T-Shirts: For anyone registering on the morning we have a small number of t-shirts available. We can’t guarantee to have one left for you, or have one in your size. But we will do our best.

Leave No Trace: Please respect our environment. Leave only footprints, take only memories.

Share: Taking photos for social media on the day? Share your memories by tagging us on Facebook or Instagram and use the hashtags #dilballybofeystranorlar #DIL2024

Volunteers: If you can volunteer your help, the orgnisers would also love to hear from you. “We need stewards for the route, and people to help tidy up at the Finn Valley Centre when the walk has finished.”
