Can you help a Vancouver woman find her “Magee” Donegal roots?

A woman from Vancouver in Canada with Donegal roots is looking for help in tracing down her long-lost relatives.

Teresa Tibutt (Magee) has made the appeal ahead of her making a trip to Donegal as well as Fermanagh in the coming weeks, as she is looking to locate the home of her great grandfather.

Her great-great grandfather, Robert Magee, was born in Donegal on Valentine’s Day, 1823, while her great-great grandmother Anabella Anderson was born in Fermanagh in 1829.

The Magees all emigrated to Canada in 1869, including Teresa’s great-grandfather Alexander Magee and many of Robert’s siblings.

“I have done a few searches with Roots of Ireland and Ancestry Donegal but the most information I found was on Ancestry. I’m hoping maybe someone locally would know the history. I’m coming to Ireland in 2 weeks and excited to look for my great grandfather’s home,” Teresa told Donegal Daily.

Teresa has also been able to track down a number of historical artefacts, including photos of both her great-great grandparents, as well as a painting of their Donegal farmhouse, named “Carracode”, an advertisement when the house was being sold, and a hand-drawn map of where the Magee family farmhouse may have roughly been located.

“I do have marriage and death certificates and census registration in Canada but can’t seem to find Alexander Magee’s birth certificate in Donegal.”

“I will be visiting Ireland for the first time and will be spending the majority of my time in Northern Ireland… can’t wait to see Donegal and hopefully I can find this house and learn more about my ancestors,” Teresa says.

You can get in contact with Teresa via email at fit@coastkinetics.com if you have any information that may help her on her quest to find her family roots.
