A man has been arrested after a “serious” hit-and-run incident in Clonmany overnight.

Gardaí say that the incident took place at 12:15am on the Main Street.

A male pedestrian was hospitalised after being struck by a vehicle, with Gardaí saying the man suffered serious injuries.

The man was initially taken to Letterkenny University Hospital, before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for further treatment – where he remains in critical condition.

Gardaí say that after further investigations, they located and arrested the driver of the car, a man aged in his 30s.

He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station within the Donegal Division.

The road currently remains closed as Gardaí continue technical examinations, with local diversions remaining in place.
