A man in his sixties remains in a critical condition after a hit-and-run incident in Clonmany at the weekend.

A man in his 30s has been arrested following the incident on the village main street at around 12:15 am yesterday morning.

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene.

He was initially brought to Letterkenny University Hospital but has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where gardaí say he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident was later identified by Gardaí and arrested.

He remains detained this morning at a garda station in Donegal.

Gardaí have said that the road, which had closed for a technical examination, has since reopened.

Anyone with information, or dash cam footage, should contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074 9320540 or the Garda Confidential Line  1800 666 111.
