Gardaí believe a fire that damaged a car outside a house in Lifford last week may have been started  maliciously.

The incident occurred in the area of Coolatee in the early hours of Wednesday, May 15th, shortly after midnight.

The residents of the house realised that their car was on fire in their driveway and the emergency services were alerted.

“The possibility that the fire may have been started deliberately has not been ruled out,” a garda spokesperson said.

“We appeal to residents in that area to make contact with Gardaí if they observed any suspicious activity on that date, or if they have any relevant information.

Gardaí in Letterkenny can be reached on 074-9167100 while the Garda Confidential Line may also be contacted on 1800 666 111.
