More than 100 ChangeMakers gathered together last Friday at the ChangeMakers Donegal annual seminar in An Grianan Hotel in Burt.

Civil Rights Activist Bernadette McAliskey interview with Trocaire’s Roisin O’Hara was the highlight of the day as the 140 plus strong crowd listened to every word she had to say.

Bernadette highlighted the need for collective collaboration to create change in society.

“There’s only one human race. Everything you do affects everything else,” she said.

“What’s happening with the climate affects what’s happening in our village whether it be Malawi or Burt- you have to remember, that whatever you are doing in Burt and Inishowen needs collaboration and collective collaboration.”

ChangeMakers Donegal, an initiative led by the Inishowen Development Partnership and partnered with Self Help Africa, Donegal ETB, Trócaire, Concern Worldwide and Irish Aid, raise awareness of global issues, such as sustainability, climate change, and more, but at a local level through education workshops, community conversations and other initiatives.

As part of the seminar, people heard from Trócaire Water Justice Officer, Salome Mumba, who has been working for the organisation for the past nine years in Malawi.

Salome talked about how climate change has spelt disaster for the people in Malawi, who are experiencing extreme weather such as cyclones, flooding and now drought.
