Council told move speed sign around village instead of buying second one

Donegal County Council has been advised to move an electronic speed sign from one end of a village to another instead of buying a second one.

The revelation was made at today’s meeting of the Lifford-Stranolar Municipal District (MD) during a discussion on speeding through Liscooley.

Currently, there is a ‘radar’ sign on the Castlefin side of the village which instantly displays a driver’s speed in the 50 kph zone. The meeting heard from local Area Engineer, Adrian McCool, who said his office requested a second such sign from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

“There’s no point in having one of those (radar) speed signs on one side of the village, so we requested a second one from TII,” Mr McCool explained.

“However, the TII informed us that no funding was available and advised us that we could move the existing sign once a month to the other end of the village and back again.”

Mr McCool also advised the meeting that the speed limit will be reduced, under new regulations, on ‘almost all roads’ in the MD from 80 kph to 60kph.
