A local election candidate has called for the immediate connection of electric and lighting infrastructure at Swan Park in Buncrana.

Adrian Mc Myler says the move will provide a crucial step in making the area more family-friendly and capable of hosting a variety of community events.

The Inishowen Independent candidate says that while the necessary piping is already in place, the park remains unlit, hindering its full potential.

He said “Ensuring the safety of our community is paramount. Proper lighting at Swan Park will create a secure environment for families, allowing for parents and their children to walk through and play safely without concern as we will soon approach shorter and darker evenings.

“Beyond safety, lighting will unlock tremendous opportunities for Swan Park to host events like fundraising concerts, family days, and other community gatherings. We witnessed the incredible support put forth during the Christmas markets, which highlighted the park’s potential as a vibrant hub for community activities.

“With adequate lighting, we can extend this energy year-round, benefiting local businesses and charities and again; Fostering community spirit.

“Since the devastating floods, our local council has done a phenomenal job in transforming Swan’s Park into a beautiful and welcoming space. Their hard work deserves to be fully utilized, and leaving the infrastructure underused would be wasteful. The pipes for lighting are in place; all we need is the final connection to make this vision a reality.

“As someone deeply involved in fundraising and volunteering within our community, I understand the impact well-planned and unique events can have. My experience has shown that with the right facilities, we can raise funds for local causes, bring people together, and create lasting memories. Connecting the electric and lighting at Swan’s Park is a small investment with a significant return for our community and those in need!”

Mr McMyler has vowed to dedicate his time to improving facilities including Swan Park and others around Buncrana if elected.

“If elected, I will continue to urge the local authorities and fellow council members to support this initiative. Let’s come together to enhance Swan Park, making it a safer, more vibrant place for everyone.

“As we approach the upcoming elections, I ask for your support. Vote for me, Adrian Mc Myler, for Donegal County Council in the Buncrana Electoral Area.
