Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has today opened a new modular school building at Letterkenny’s Errigal College.
The temporary modular building will add another seven classrooms to the school.
It follows a dramatic rise in the number of pupils at the school which led to an increase in demand for class spaces under Principal Danny McFadden.
The Minister was joined by local councillors, teachers and pupils for the ribbon-cutting occasion.
The two storey building, which was completed earlier this year, consists of seven classrooms and three SEN spaces. The single storey consists of three classrooms.
All classrooms are designed to be multi-functional and cater to various subject and learning disciplines. They have been kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment to support the learning and teaching within the classroom.
Speaking at the opening, Donegal ETB Director of Schools Dr Martin Gormley said “I acknowledge the support of the Minister and the Department of Education officials in bringing this project to fruition. The enhanced facilities will further improve the teaching and learning environment for our students and staff. Donegal ETB and Errigal College thank the Minister for her continued support towards the further development of the school.
Principal of Errigal College, Mr. Danny McFadden said, “We are delighted to have the Minister here today, to officially open our new building. Today was an opportunity for us to showcase our wonderful students and school. We promote equality of opportunity for all, unrestricted by background, ability, language or gender. We know that opportunity creates success, and we are fortunate to have the expertise and facilities to provide opportunities to all our students”.
Minister for Education, Norma Foley T.D. said, “It is an honour to be here today to officially open Errigal College’s new modular building comprising ten classrooms and SEN spaces. I know the opening of these fine facilities will see students continue to thrive.” she added, “I want to thank all the staff for the wonderful work that they do every day.”
Minister Foley is also due to visit St Eunans College and will also join the election canvass with local Fianna Fail election hopefuls.
