Sinn Féin local election candidate trio, Dakota NicMheanman, Gary Doherty and Tony McDaid, dubbed the “Finn Valley 3” locally, are seeking a strong mandate from the electoral area on June 7th to deliver much needed change in local communities.
The team of three are joined by 15 other Sinn Fein local election candidates across Donegal and are seeking to make a historic breakthrough to become the largest party on Donegal County Council for the first time.
A strengthened team of councillors will put the party in a strong position to work with its team in the Dáil to deliver real change locally – in providing more social and affordable housing; 100% redress for families affected by defective block homeowners, investing in our local communities and infrastructure and championing better health services.
Dakota NicMheanman, first time candidate from the twin towns area, is a recent graduate with a degree in Gaeilge and Criminology from Maynooth University. She is seeking election to give strong representation to young people, who are disconnected from Donegal County Council and have been impacted badly by the housing crisis in particular. As a mother and having volunteered with mental health organisation, Jigsaw, Dakota understands the importance of investment in community and health services and will champion these issues if elected.

Gary Doherty, a serving councillor for over 10 years in the area has been a champion for improved flood relief schemes, 100% redress for families affected by defective concrete and for more social and affordable homes. Having served as cathaoirleach of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District , Finn Valley College and Robert Emmets CLG and vice-chair of ICBAN and Donegal ETB, Gary has a wealth of experience on the issues in the area.

Tony McDaid has lived in Lifford for over 50 years and has extensive experience of community work in Lifford and Raphoe. He has worked in Lifford- Clonleigh Resource Centre and was Project Co-ordinator in Raphoe Family Resource Centre for 20 years. He was awarded the Rehab Donegal Community Person of the Year for his work with people with disabilities and remains a very active presence in community work in Lifford.
