A popular Doochary postwoman got a pleasant surprise yesterday, on what was her last day on the beat before retirement.

Patricia ‘Pat’ McGettigan was overwhelmed after villagers turned out in force to bid her farewell after many years of loyal service to the local community.

Pat gets another shock when locals shower her with gifts!

She was said to have ‘gone beyond the call of duty’ during her many years in the job and was showered with flowers and gifts as she exited her postvan on arrival in the village.

“A little surprise from us all for Pat (Patricia McGettigan), our lovely post lady today to thank her for her never failing cheer, her kindness and concern for all those she delivered mail too and her genuine care for those in our community,” a spokesperson for the local community group said.

“We will all miss Pat but wish her well in her retirement.”

Taking to Facebook, Pat said: “Thanks everyone for all the good wishes and kind words, it really means a lot to me.”

We wish Pat a happy and healthy retirement.
