Three Tyrone men have been jailed for a cross-border kidnapping where the victim was abducted from his Donegal home and shot in the leg with a crossbow.
The victim, who was also threatened with a chainsaw, was taken from his house in October 2020 and driven 18 km across the border to Castlederg in Co Tyrone.
His ordeal lasted more than five hours and he needed hospital treatment for his injury.
Sean McCosker (34) of Listymore Park, Castlederg, must serve two-and-a-half years in prison.
Brendan McShane (30) of Garag Hill, Churchtown, Castlederg, was given a two-year sentence.
Joseph Martin Mannion (39) of Chestnutt Park, Strabane, was jailed for 18 months.
All three must serve additional periods on licence when their jail terms end. They all pleaded guilty to kidnap and wounding.
On 4 October 2020, the PSNI got a report of a suspected kidnapping from An Garda Síochána.
Officers observed a suspect vehicle at a property at Listymore in Castlederg. The property was searched and the vehicle seized.
All three accused pleaded guilty and were sentenced at Newry Crown Court yesterday.
PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Kerry Brennan said the victim of the kidnap had suffered an “horrific and traumatic ordeal”.
“In addition to the physical impact, the ordeal has had a deeply distressing impact on the victim. However despite the trauma he suffered, he co-operated with our investigation from the outset.”
Garda Chief Superintendent for Donegal, Goretti Sheridan, said: “The continued cross-border cooperation with our colleagues in the PSNI has proven instrumental in ensuring that those responsible for this crime have been brought to justice.”
