Senior Gardaí from Donegal recently hosted members of the Latvian police force in relation to an ongoing human trafficking investigation.
In recent months, a number of men have been charged in local courts with aiding an international crime gang involved in people smuggling.
“As part of an ongoing human trafficking investigation in the Donegal District, our investigation team and senior members had the pleasure of working with the Latvian Police to advance the case,” a garda spokesperson said.
“This is the first Mutual Assistance case of its kind to take place in the North West.
Superintendent Karen Duffy hosted her Latvian counterparts for their visit to the county to progress the ongoing investigation.
“We are extremely grateful to our Joint Investigation Team in Latvia for their diligent work and assistance with this case.”
