Students across Donegal will soon be sitting down to begin their Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and Junior Cycle written examinations today.

Exams begin with English papers at both levels.

Some 1,961 students will be doing the Leaving Certificate, with a further 216 doing Leaving Cert Applied exams.

There are also 2,610 students sitting the Junior Certificate in Donegal.

Some 136,300 candidates are entered to take the state examinations in Ireland this year. Of the total, 62,700 are entered to sit Leaving Certificate Established or Leaving Certificate Applied examinations.

The State Examinations Commission intends that the results of the 2024 Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied examinations will issue to candidates on Friday 23 August. The Junior Cycle 2024 exam results will be available in late 2024.

The advice for students is to maintain a simple and balanced routine over the coming weeks.

ASTI President Geraldine O’Brien said: “You have already achieved so much during your time as a second-level student. Your job now is to look after yourself over the coming weeks. A good routine with plenty of rest, some exercise, and time for organising yourself and for social connections, will help you get the most out of the preparation work you have been undertaking over the past number of months,” said Ms O’Brien.
