A Donegal native has been appointed to one of the most senior positions in the British & Irish Lions rugby organisation.

Clare McMonagle, from Letterkenny, is their new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

She joins at an exciting time for the British & Irish Lions, with less than two years to go to the eagerly anticipated 2025 Tour to Australia.

“I am delighted to be joining such an iconic and globally renowned sporting brand as The British & Irish Lions during what is an extremely exciting period for the organisation,” she said.

“As a keen rugby fan, this role is a very exciting milestone in my career. I look forward to working with Ben Calveley (CEO) and the wider executive team as we build towards Australia in 2025 as well as supporting the delivery of wider strategic priorities for the organisation.”

Ms McMonagle has extensive experience within the financial industry. Prior to her latest appointment, she worked with CarTrawler, a global B2B provider of car rental and mobility solutions to the travel industry.

She also has extensive experience within the Australian market having previously spent four years at Brookfield Multiplex – one of the largest construction companies in Australia, while she also served as CFO at MPA Construction Group, a leading Australian project management company.

Ms McMonagle has a dual Law and Commerce degree from University College Dublin in Ireland (UCD) following which she went on to complete a Postgraduate Master of Accounting in Smurfit Business School UCD.

Ben Calveley, British & Irish Lions CEO, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Clare as our new Chief Financial Officer.  Clare brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to The British & Irish Lions which will complement the outstanding talent we already have within our team.

“Clare is joining at a critical time as our preparation for the 2025 tour really ramps up and we are looking forward to working closely with her, and drawing on her significant experience as we begin the countdown to Australia in 2025.”
