MILFORD (3PM): Independent candidate Pauric McGarvey is set to retain his seat on Donegal County Council as the Milford LEA gets a shake-up.

McGarvey is overtaking Kilmacrennan’s John O’Donnell (IND) in the transfers, with the first count still to be announced.

Independent Milford community worker Declan Meehan will take the first seat and Fianna Fáil’s Liam Blaney is on course to retain his seat.

Pauric McGarvey had just 15 months to prove himself in the last council term after taking the seat vacated by his uncle, Ian McGarvey, who retired at the age of 92.

In his short term, Pauric said: “I went in with an open book, I worked very hard for the areas and the people that contacted me. I did my best and thank God on Friday they came out and proved to me that the work paid off.”
