A second recount has been announced for the Letterkenny Electoral Area.

It comes after the first recount which started at 10am today ended after several hours.

The first count was agreed to after a request by Aontu candidate Mary T Sweeney late last night.

That recount started this morning at 10am.

After several hours, the results of that recount was announced and found Ms Sweeney had gained three votes leaving her five votes ahead of fellow candidate Kevin Bradley.

Returning officer Seamus Canning announced the details and announced that Mr Bradley had been eliminated.

Mr Bradley immediately approached the sorting area and spoke with council officials.

After a number of minutes Mr Canning then said he was ‘acceding” to the request and that a second recount would begin at 6pm this evening.
