It took ten counts and votes being counted past 11pm, but the Glenties Municipal District has its six councillors.

Sinn Fein’s Brian Carr and John Seamais O Fearraigh, as well as 100% Redress candidate Denis McGee were all deemed elected on the tenth count, after the votes of Sinn Fein’s Kellie Rodgers were distributed.

They will now join Independent candidates Michael Choilm MacGiola Easbuig and Michael McClafferty, as well as Fianna Fail’s Anthony Molloy on the new Glenties Municipal District Council.

John Seamais O Fearraigh finished with 1,727 votes, with Denis McGee just behind him on 1,633. Brian Carr was the last over the line, securing a total of 1,587 votes.

They all beat out Independent candidate Jonathan Stewart, who ended up with a final tally of 1,437.
