Travellers are bracing for potential disruption this summer after Aer Lingus pilots voted in favour of industrial action.
Pilots with the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association are seeking wage hikes of over 20 percent in order to get a “fair share” of Aer Lingus’ profits.
Yesterday members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action, up to and including the withdrawal of labour.
The extent of the action is to be decided as talks resume today between Aer Lingus management and pilots.
The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) has called for a resolution to the Aer Lingus pilots dispute.
Angela Walsh, President of The Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA) said, “The ITAA is urging Aer Lingus and unions to reach a resolution and avoid any disruptive strike action. Any pilot strike over the summer months will cause serious impact for both holidaymakers and corporate travellers, as we are in the busiest travel period of the year, with knock on effects on accommodation reservations and connecting travel.”
