Booking is now open for the fun-filled annual Spraoi agus Spórt summer camps in and around Carndonagh.

The award-winning social enterprise is expecting over 300 children to take part this year, based on last year’s figures.

“We’re running 37 individual camps, on everything from adventure, forest exploration and pier jumping, to filmmaking, gaming, cooking, and sewing,” says Spraoi chief executive, Helen Nolan.

The camps start on 24th June and run until 23rd August and lots of children take part in more than one, she adds. Most of the camps run for five days, and they offer something for all age groups from toddlers to teens.

The Multi-Activity Camp is a big hit and runs five days a week every week from June to the end of August.

“Each day is jam packed with lots of outdoor games and activities, arts and crafts and much much more,” Ms Nolan added.

Some highlights this year also include a Film School, Teens Adventure Summer Camp, ReThread: Textile Upcycling camp, and Gaming Adventure for Young Creators.

Spraoi agus Sport’s Administration Lead, Mary McWeeney says the Cooking Camps are also very popular, along with Sewing and Pottery.

“Now that we have our own fully equipped Sewing and Pottery rooms, this year’s camps are looking very exciting. Keep an eye out for the joint camps: Creative Stitch & Pottery, Baking & Pottery and Cooking & Creative Stitch.”

“For those that enjoy the outdoors, our hugely popular Adventure Sports Club is running again this year, and is already filling up. It provides water-based and outdoor activities including kayaking, paddle boarding and cliff climbing. In addition, there are separate camps for Surfing, Pier Jumping and Coasteering. And if the water’s not for you we have a new outdoor camp running this year with Wildwoods Beach & Forest School.”

There is a fantastic variety of activities on offer for children and one-to-one special needs assistance is also offered to make camps inclusive. Last year, around 80 children with special needs took part.

“In fact, some families holiday here in Inishowen as it’s their only way to access summer camps for their children with special needs. This highlights how much Spraoi has to offer for this region,” Ms Nolan explained.

She says access to low-cost, but high-quality activities is a challenge for many families. “So, our summer camps take pressure off working families during the long school holidays. “We get fantastic feedback from parents every year, who say the camps provide great entertainment and learning opportunities for their children.”

She thanked her team member, Tracy Doyle, for pulling the camp programme together as well as the 50 people who facilitate or lead their summer camp activities.

“Children are getting first class instruction in areas like water sports, filmmaking and gaming right through to crafts such as pottery and sewing. It’s great to have their support in passing on these skills to a new generation”.

Ms Nolan concluded that the National Childcare Scheme (NCS) can be used at all their summer camps. Just contact the office on 086 842 0203 with your CHICK before paying, she advises. For camp dates, details and activities or to book, please go to: https://spraoi-agus-sport.classforkids.io/camps
