Milford & District Resource Centre is to receive an additional €25,750 per year for the delivery of a Meals on Wheels service in the area.

€1 million in additional funding nationally was announced on Tuesday by the Department of Rural and Community Development which will benefit community groups across the country.

Local county councillor Declan Meehan has welcomed the announcement.

He said “This is a fantastic boost for the local community and particularly for older people in the area. I am delighted to have secured this funding which will meet a real need in the community by addressing a gap in service provision particularly in the Milford, Ramelton, Rathmullan and Fanad areas.

“The aim of this service is to ensure access to nutritional meals for those living alone, while also combatting social isolation. I would like to thank the various community groups, doctors and public health nurses who supported our application for this funding.”

Milford & District Resource Centre will operate the scheme and hope to have it up and running by the autumn.
