Tributes have been paid to the outstanding writer and journalist Pádraig Ó Baoigill, after his passing yesterday at the age of 91.

Pádraig passed away at Cavan University Hospital following a short illness.

The Rann na Feirste native was an avid writer as Gaelige, writing almost 20 books in his native tongue.

He was also a frequent contributor to a number of Irish language newspapers throughout his life, as well as an academic.

Pádraig also played a key role in the Gael Linn organisation.

Residing in Coolshannagh in Monaghan, Pádraig never lost the love he had for his native Dún na nGall.

Just as recently as last year he was celebrated at a special reception hosted by Donegal County Council in Dungloe recognising his contributions to the Irish language and his achievements.
