Almost 200 more Ukrainian refugees registered in Donegal in the past four months, new CSO data shows.

Donegal now has 7,802 people from Ukraine, up from 7,613 since the last report in February.

Some 1,565 children from Ukraine are enrolled in Donegal schools, of which 957 are primary school pupils and 608 are post-primary students. There are also 140 children from Ukraine in the National Childcare Scheme (NCS) and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).

The rate of Ukrainian refugees per 100 of the population varies across all local electoral areas in Donegal. The Donegal LEA (South Donegal) has the highest number with 2,072 registered people while Buncrana (South Inishowen) has the lowest at 442.

The regional breakdown is as follows:

  • Glenties – 1,551
  • Milford – 851
  • Carndonagh – 887
  • Buncrana – 442
  • Donegal – 2,072
  • Letterkenny – 1,415
  • Lifford-Stranorlar – 584

Nationally, 107,406  people from Ukraine have arrived in Ireland up to 6th June 2024. Just over 100 people had arrived in the previous seven days.
