A super-skilled K9 helped to sniff out significant hauls of drugs and cash in Donegal during the weekend.

Four suspected drug dealers were arrested over the course of ‘rally weekend’ in Donegal.

And Alfie, a detector dog with Revenue Customs Service, ably assisted in many of the finds.

Alfie and his handler travelled to Donegal to lend a ‘paw’ to the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit as part of the anti-drugs Operation Tara.

Gardaí today revealed that controlled drugs with a market value of €16,000 (subject to analysis) and €4,000 cash were seized this weekend during a number of searches, along with paraphernalia associated with the sale and supply of controlled drugs.

“Four males were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs for the purposes of sale and supply. They were interviewed and released, pending analysis of the seized items and submission of a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions,” a garda spokesperson said.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute those involved in drug trafficking networks, at all levels. Under Operation Tara, individuals and groups involved in the drug trade will be the target of enforcement activity based on intelligence and latest crime trends.

Anyone who may have information in relation to the sale and supply of controlled drugs may contact the Donegal Divisional Drugs Unit in confidence on 0749167100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
