Disappointment after new car park destroyed during diffing spree

There is anger and disappointment after one of Donegal’s newest amenities was left “like a race track” by boy racers.

The new car park to the Muckish Railway Walk was finished to a very high standard recently, but diffing antics last weekend have ruined the lining.

Cllr Michael McClafferty of the Glenties MD said the damage is an insult to those who worked so hard to secure funding for the area.

“Getting the Railway Walk to this high standard has required a significant amount of Government funding,” Cllr McClafferty said.

“Securing this funding required an enormous amount of work and lobbying – the goal in mind was that it would remain accessible for all of us to enjoy for many years to come.”

Separating the incident from the official Donegal International Rally, Cllr McClafferty said: “The Donegal International Rally is a fantastic and well-organized event that has gained global recognition. It was a resounding success for the county this past weekend.

“There were supervised diffing tracks available in Letterkenny throughout the weekend for such activities. I urge everyone to please stop destroying our public car parks and roads. Please use the tracks dedicated to these activities instead.”
