The Donegal Bay Sub Aqua Club has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of a popular diver who died in an accident off the south west Donegal coast on Saturday afternoon.

Patrick ‘Pat’ Doran, a loving family man from Leitrim, died following an incident at Teelin Bay during a large diving event.

Mr Doran, a 49-year-old father of three, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another diver aged in his 60s was recovered from the water and was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to University Hospital Galway.

A tribute from the Donegal Bay Sub Aqua Club Search & Recovery shared online described Mr. Patrick Doran as a “cherished member of the Diving Community”.

With a photo of a memorial bouquet, the club said: “During this difficult time, we extend our sincere condolences to Patrick’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and we hope they find solace in the cherished memories they shared with him.

“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the emergency services and volunteers who provided immediate and comprehensive support during this tragic incident. Their professionalism, dedication and compassion have been a great comfort to everyone involved. May his Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.”

Funeral details for Mr Doran are as follows:
