Specsavers in Donegal Town is celebrating the recent achievements of team member Dawn Wray, who has qualified as a dispensing optician.

Dawn’s success story is an example of the professional development support by Specsavers, which continues to underscore its dedication to further education and career opportunities for staff members.

Dawn, who has been a part of the Specsavers team for eight years, recently completed a three-year Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing course with the Association of British Dispensing Opticians in the UK. This significant achievement further equips Dawn with the skills to triage acute eye conditions, dispense complex and high prescriptions as well as oversee children’s prescriptions.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dawn is an active member of the Donegal Bay Rowing Club and a well-known figure in the community. Her local roots and commitment to serving her community align perfectly with Specsavers’ mission to provide accessible and personalised eye care services.

Speaking on Dawn’s recent success, Shannon Broderick, Dispensing Director at Specsavers Donegal Town says ‘Dawn’s accomplishment highlights our ongoing commitment to staff development. We believe in investing in our people, providing them with opportunities to grow professionally, and equipping them with the skills to deliver exceptional service to our customers. We’re very proud of Dawn!’.

Speaking on her experience, Dawn says: ‘Having worked in Specsavers since 2016, I have thoroughly enjoyed helping customers in the community with their essential eyecare needs. It has been an honour to work with so many amazing colleagues as we strive to provide the very best to our customers. I’m extremely grateful to continuous support from my team, especially Sharon Broderick, Eddie Dolan and Veronica Watters.’

Dawn is not the only staff member from Specsavers Donegal Town who has benefited from this important educational support. Shannon progressed from store manager to director after completing Specsavers’ Leadership and Management course and Pathways program, a bespoke training and development program that provides clinicians with the tools to become successful business owners through the joint venture partnership model.

Additionally, Niamh McGlinchey and Donna Donagher have recently completed the Specsavers Cert3, becoming optical assistants.  Kieran Kenny, who was an optical assistant when the store originally opened in 2016, has transferred over to the audiology business following his studies at Queen Margaret to becoming a hearing aid audiologist. Kieran’s development has allowed Specsavers Donegal Town to offer extra days to see and care for their amazing customers.

With Dawn’s success story, Specsavers Donegal Town reiterates its dedication to fostering talent from within, providing a platform for employees to excel in their careers while serving their local community.
