U13 Girls All Ireland Silver for Rosses AC’s Aaliyah Gallagher Canavan

Last weekend saw Day 1 of the All Ireland u13 to u19 juvenile All Ireland track and field championships and it was the turn of Aaliyah Gallagher Canavan in the u13 girl high jump to claim a great silver medal. 

Aaliyah (main pic) has worked hard with her coaches over the past few months on technique etc and matched her PB of 1.43m to secure her podium position.

There were a number of other excellent performances on the day that could so easily have been medal positions, but for others their day will come. Aileen Logue 6th u14 girls high jump, Evan Ward 5thu14 boys high jump, Niamh Doogan 5th u15 girls long jump, Annie O’Neill 7th u15 girls long jump, Leah Ward 9th u14 girls shot putt, Teighan Boyle 11th u13 girls shot putt, Aaliyah Gallagher Canavan 5th u13 girls shot put and Niamh Doogan 7th u15 girls 80m hurdles. Well done to all and thanks to the parents who travelled and helped out on the day. 

Rosses AC’s Evan Ward and Leah Ward who both had strong performances at the All Ireland Juveniles Championships in Tullamore.

At the Tuff Inish adventure race in Inishowen, David McKelvey finished an excellent 2nd after battling it out with club mate Shaun Stewart who claimed top spot. 

At the New Mills 10k, James McGeehan ran a strong 42:12 while six Rosses ladies made the trip. Maria Ni Mhaolagain had an excellent run with 2nd in 36:22. Martina Mulhern ran 42:49 to take second in the F40 category, Cathy Breslin F50 second place in 44:27, Emer Magee F50 3rd in 47:17, Karen Devanney 50:15 and Angela Trimble 60:56. 

Rosses AC’s Cathy Breslin, Martina Mulhern, Maria Ni Mhaolagain, Emer Magee, Angela Trimble and Karen Devanney who took part in the Donegal 10k Road Championships in Newmills.

At the Caraween IMRA race 8K, a number of Rosses athletes headed for the only official IMRA race in Donegal. Declan Gallagher was 7th, Paul McKelvey 10th, Eoin Boyle 12th  and Paddy Solan top 15. In the ladies section Keeva Gallagher continues to improve picking up a category prize with a great run with Bernie Boyle taking on a mountain race for the first time. At the Clontarf half marathon Ashleigh Ni Suibhne ran 1:55:02. At the Annadale striders  3000 ms Helen McCready ran a fantastic 4th place in 10:17.
