Singer Daniel O’Donnell became Legenderry for the day yesterday as he performed multiple songs for fans of all ages from the Derry Diocese. Delighted fans clapped and sang along in unison to some of his greatest hits, including his version of Buck Owens original ‘Act Naturally.’

The International superstar, who is recognised worldwide, sang from his catalogue of music. He also told funny stories throughout and engaged with his many fans in an afternoon tea that consisted of delicious tea or coffee with an indulgence of cake.  Attendees were also treated to a meet and greet as well as a photo opportunity with the star, where they briefly got to speak to him one-on-one.

Daniel has spoken in the past of his affection for Derry and the people from the town, having stated in that past that his mother ‘Worked in Derry when she was young.’

The tea took place in the school grounds of St.Mary’s College on the Northland road, Derry at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.  The event, in association with St.Eugene’s Cathedral, had a great turnout with a packed venue.

As well as entertainment from the Irish country singer, there was also a rickety wheel with lots of prizes to be won. The afternoon turned out to be a great success with positive comments from the people who went.

Life long fan Marie Harrigan left, with friend Ivy and Daniel O Donnell centre

Long-time fan Marie Harrigan happily spoke about her interaction with Daniel and her experience at the event.  “He was lovely, I would have paid double, he was brilliant.”

Daniel O Donnell may have had a flying visit to Derry but he will be beginning a 15-date Canada/USA tour in the Autumn, starting September 2024, with tickets now on sale. For more information on the tour visit: www.danielodonnell.org
