There is widespread sadness in Letterkenny and beyond following the death of popular local woman, May Doherty (nee Gallagher).

The wife of the late Barney Doherty, May was originally from Swinford in Co Mayo.

A woman with a kind nature, she will be remembered by many for her many years of service at the ESB outlet on Letterkenny’s Port Road.

An extremely capable woman, May was often seen in and around her home and the surrounding areas at ‘Bellvue’ on the Convent Road and always stopped to chat and show genuine concern for people.

May passed away in the loving care of staff at Hillcrest Nursing Home earlier today.

She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters Patricia and Assumpta, sons John, Bernard and Diarmaid, sons-in-law Stephen and Patsy, daughters-in-law Dolie and Deborah, grandchildren and great-grandchild, brother Tommy (America), sisters Annie (Swinford), Lena (Ballina) and Chris (Dublin), nieces, nephews and a wide circle of family, friends and neighbours.

May is predeceased by her husband Barney (2001), daughter-in-law Noreen (2006), brother Sean Gallagher and sister Peggy Rothwell.

May’s remains will be reposing at her late residence on Tuesday 16th July from 4pm until 10pm and on Wednesday 17th July from 12 noon until 10pm with Rosary both nights at 9pm.

Funeral from there on Thursday 18th July at 10.30am going to St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny for 11am Requiem Mass which can be viewed live on www.churchservices.tv/letterkenny.

Interment afterwards in Conwal Cemetery. Family time on the morning of the funeral please.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, to the Donegal Hospice c/o any family member.
