A building which was damaged after it was set on fire in Convoy on Thursday was never to be used to house asylum seekers.
The property including a piece of machinery was set alight.
The attack followed rumours on social media that the building was to be used to house asylum seekers.
But this has been categorically denied by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.
A spokesperson told Donegal Daily “The Department has received no offer of accommodation for people seeking international protection in respect of this property, and is not examining this property for use.”
The fire was brought under control by fire services and that no injuries have been reported.
A Garda spokesperson said yesterday that in relation to Convoy incident, Gardaí are “aware of misinformation, disinformation and rumour in relation to the use or proposed use of the building”.
