Gardaí have issued a warning after a spate of car breaks-in in recent days in Inishowen.

At least SIX cars have been broken into at addresses in Muff and Burnfoot on various dates.

Gardai have pleaded with car owners to ensure that cars are locked at all times and also for drivers not to leaves valuables on display in their vehicles.

Among the items stolen from cars in recent days include a laptop computer.

The first break-in happened in the area of Carnamoyle, Muff between 11.30pm on Tuesday the 16th of July and 5.15am on Wednesday the 17th of July.

A Dell laptop was stolen from the boot of the car while a second car at the property was also entered and searched through but nothing was stolen from it. No damage was caused to either of the cars.

Two cars at another residence in the area of Carnamoyle, Muff were also entered between midnight and 7.40am on Wednesday the 17th of July. They appear to have been searched but nothing was stolen and again, no damage was caused as they were unlocked.

Two other cars were entered in the area of Gortcormican, Burnfoot in the early hours of Wednesday the 17th of July (between approximately midnight to 5am). No damage was caused to these cars and nothing was stolen from them.

Gardai have appealed to anybody who may have travelled in the areas of Carnamoyle, Muff or Gortcormican, Burnfoot with a dashcam between the night of Tuesday the 16th of July and the morning of Wednesday the 17th of July to make the footage available to Gardaí.

If anybody observed any suspicious activity/vehicles in these areas between those dates or if they have any relevant information, we ask them to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074-9320540.

Garda Sergeant Eunan Walsh also advised car owners to ensure their cars are always locked, even if parked at their homes.

Gardai have issued the following guidlines:

* Ensure that your car is locked when unattended regardless of whether you are parking in a public place or at home.
* Try to park in well lit up area.
* Store your car keys away from windows and letterboxes.
* Don’t store cash or valuables in your car.
