Two people have been rescued after they were cut off by the tide and left stranded on rocks off the coast of Donegal.

The pair were left stranded at 9.24pm last night after a high tide in the Lambs Bay area of Lough Swilly.

A passing member of the public noticed the pair were in danger and immediately called the emergency services.

The Lough Swilly RNLI were then tasked to the area by the Malin Head Coast Guard.

The Atlantic 85 was quickly launched at Ned’s Point and the volunteer crew made their way to the Lambs Bay area.

The rescue crew removed two people from the rocks and took them safely to shore.

A spokesperson for the Lough Swilly RNLI said “Both were in good spirits so the crew returned to Ned’s, refuelled and made ready for service.

“We would like to thank the member of the public who contacted the Coast Guard.

“Remember if you see someone in difficulty in or on the water, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
