A newly formed housing action campaign group held its first protest outside Donegal County Council offices yesterday.
The Tóg Tithe campaign seeks to put pressure on the council and government to build more houses in the West Donegal region.
Just 6 properties were built by the Council in the Glenties MD within the past 5 years.
The first protest at the Dungloe Public Services Centre set out to highlight the “dire housing crisis” in the community.

Campaigner Rachel Ní Ghallachóir said Thursday’s action is the first of a series of actions for their cause:
“We believe that housing is a fundamental human right, and it is crucial for us to come together and demand change,” she said.
“We urge Donegal County Council to prioritise building more homes for our community, regulate Airbnb, and address the high rent prices driven by limited supply and high demand. By raising our voices, we hope to put real pressure on the council and the government to take meaningful action.”
At a special meeting of Donegal County Council this week, the local authority outlined targets for the delivery of 178 homes across social housing schemes in the Glenties district by 2026.
