The number of adults recorded as homeless in the northwest region has fallen for the third month in a row.

In June, there were 137 adults accessing local authority managed emergency accommodation.

The figure has decreased gradually since March and April, when 172 adults were recorded as homeless during both months.

Meanwhile, Ireland has hit another record for homelessness with an overall figure of 14,303 people accessing emergency accommodation. There were 9,899 single adults and 2,093 families in emergency accommodation in June, including 4,404 children under 18.

Donegal County Council is currently supporting 5 families, one couple and 34 individuals with B&B vouchers.

The figures were revealed following a question raised by Cllr Gerry McMonagle this week. The council explained that the long-term solution to people entering homelessness will be achieved through a range of means including the delivery of social housing capital which aims to deliver 1,268 units across Donegal by 2026.
