Rachael Darragh’s Olympic journey comes to an end

Raphoe Badminton player Rachael Darragh has bowed out of the Olympic games.

Darragh endured a straight sets defeat to 2016 gold medallist Carolina Marin at La Chapelle Arena this afternoon.

Marin of Spain took the victory with 21-5 21-5, halting Darragh’s path to the knockout stages.

Yesterday, Darragh impressively won her first game against European Games bronze medallist, Jenjira Stadelmann, but was pipped in the following games of the opening Group L match.

Despite Darragh’s Olympic debut coming to a close, it has been an experience of a lifetime she will no doubt build on.

Darragh is the niece of three-time Olympian Chloe Magee and Daniel Magee, who is a high performance director at Badminton Ireland.
