A Donegal driver caught 45 kp/h over the speed limit was one of 135 speeding detections made in a 24 hour period this weekend nationwide by Gardaí.
As their Bank Holiday weekend operations continue, Gardaí monitored the speeds of over 48,000 vehicles between 7am on Saturday and 7am on Sunday.
One of the most egregious speeding marks was set in Donegal, where a driver was caught doing 145 kp/h in a 100 kp/h zone on the N15 at Coolcholly in Ballyshannon.
Nearby at Portnason, another driver was caught doing 85 kp/h in a 60kp/h zone.
“It is positive that the majority of motorists are travelling within the designated speed, however, 135 drivers were detected during this period and some have been especially dangerous,” Gardaí said in a statement.
“We will continue to monitor and conduct checkpoints on our roads, using our technology to detect those speeding nationwide. Remember to please slow down and drive safely today and every day.”
